Bad Breath in Morocco: Real Causes and Effective Treatments

Bad breath is a subject rarely discussed because it is embarrassing. Yet it affects a significant proportion of the population: it is estimated that 25 to 30% of adults suffer from chronic halitosis, and the vast majority are unaware of it or minimize it.

In the vast majority of cases, bad breath has an identifiable and treatable dental or periodontal cause. This guide helps you understand where it comes from and how to get rid of it.

Where Does Bad Breath Really Come From?

In 90% of cases, halitosis comes from the mouth. Not the stomach, contrary to popular belief. The main causes are the accumulation of anaerobic bacteria on the back of the tongue (producing volatile sulfur compounds responsible for the odor), insufficient interdental hygiene, active periodontitis, poorly adjusted crowns or prostheses, and xerostomia (dry mouth).

Extra-oral causes such as gastroesophageal reflux, ENT pathologies, and decompensated diabetes exist but represent less than 10% of cases. If the dental examination is normal and halitosis persists, a general medical investigation is warranted.

To Go Further

Halitosis is treatable. If you question your breath, if those around you have mentioned it, or if you experience it yourself, consult.

Longchamp CIL Dental Clinic offers complete dental check-ups that include halitosis assessment. No embarrassment in mentioning it to your practitioner: it is a medical complaint like any other, and it deserves a serious answer.
