An immediate implant involves extracting the tooth and placing the implant in the same socket, the same day. If sufficient primary stability is achieved, a temporary crown can even be placed within 24 hours. This is referred to as immediate loading.

An immediate implant is not universal. The conditions that allow it include: sufficiently dense and voluminous bone around the extraction site, the absence of active infection at the time of extraction, and sufficient primary implant stability measured during placement.
The main contraindications are extractions with significant bone loss, areas presenting acute infection, and patients with unfavorable general factors such as uncontrolled diabetes or bisphosphonates.
