Dental Care in Morocco: Scaling, Root Canal, Extraction, What You Need to Know

Conservative dental care is the daily bread of dentistry. Scaling, filling, root canal treatment, extraction: procedures performed thousands of times each day in Moroccan practices. And yet surrounded by much misunderstanding and apprehension.

This guide demystifies the main dental care available in Morocco, explains what these procedures are for, and helps you understand why postponing them is almost always the worst decision.

Dental Scaling: Essential, Not Optional

Tartar is a calcification of bacterial deposits that accumulate on teeth despite regular brushing. It cannot be eliminated with a toothbrush. Only professional scaling, performed with ultrasonic instruments, can dislodge it.

An annual scaling is not a luxury: it is pure prevention. Sub-gingival tartar is a major factor in periodontal disease, which can progress to bone loss and tooth loss.

Scaling hurts is a myth perpetuated by fear. Performed by a competent practitioner on healthy gums, it is painless or very slightly uncomfortable.

Root Canal Treatment: Saving a Tooth Instead of Extracting It

Root canal treatment consists of removing the infected dental pulp and hermetically obturating the root canals to prevent any reinfection. The goal is to keep the tooth in place.

Under properly administered local anesthesia, root canal treatment is painless during the procedure. Follow-up can be uncomfortable for 24 to 48 hours. Nothing more.

A weakened devitalized tooth almost always needs to be protected by a crown. Without this protection, it risks a vertical fracture, an irreversible complication that then leads to extraction.

To Go Further

Conservative dental care is your first line of defense against far more serious and costly problems in the long run. A cavity treated in time costs two hundred dirhams. The same cavity ignored can cost a root canal, a crown, or even an implant. Come when everything is fine, to keep it that way.
